Shri Talanpur Teerth located in Madhya Pradesh is a Jain pilgrimage centre. It is situated in the city of Kukshi at a distance of 5 kilometres. The temple is dedicated to Bhagwan Rishabh Dev, the first Jain Tirthankaras.
History of Shri Talanpur Teerth
According to history Shri Talanpur Teerth dates back to the ancient period. Earlier the place was known as Tarapur, Taranpur and Tungiyapattan. As per an inscription found in the temple the idol of Bhagwan Rishabh Dev was installed in the year 612 of the Vikram Samvat Era. According to a legend a farmer had found 13 ancient idols of Swetambara and Digambara sects. He then installed them in different temples. It is mentioned that in the thirteenth century Pethod Shah, the advisor to the King of Mandavgadh had constructed a Jain temple here. Later the idol was reinstalled in the year 1950 of the Vikram Samvat Era by the auspicious hands of revered Acharya Rajendrasurishvarji. The temple is visited by thousands of devotees from different places. It is said that by worshipping the Lord with full devotion one can get all their wishes fulfilled.
Temple of Shri Talanpur Teerth
The temple of Shri Talanpur Teerth houses the idol of Bhagwan Rishabh Dev. The temple has been magnificently decorated with intricate artistic designs. The creative temple work boast about the skills of the craftsmen. The idol of the Lord is nearly 106 cm in height and is light blue in colour. It is seated in a padmasana posture. The idol being very old looks very appealing. Apart from this there is another temple here, known as Sigambar temple which is a Swetambara temple. The temple is dedicated to Lord Parshvanatha. It is green in colour and looks very attractive because of its special complexion.
The Temple of Shri Talanpur Teerth organises many annual gatherings and functions. A fair is held here on the fifteenth day of the bright half of the month of Kartika. There are provisions for dharamshalas or rest houses for the pilgrims. These are well equipped with all modern facilities. Being situated in a village the temple is enclosed by scenic beauty that mesmerises and fascinates the pilgrims. The calm and tranquil environment and the surrounding greenery make it a suitable place for religious activities.
