Sri Som Chintamani Parshwanath Tirth, Khambhat, Gujarat :

Mulnayak : Nearly 55cms. high, beautifully carved Parrikar-Yukt white – coloured idol of Shri Som Chintamani Parshvanath in the Padmasana posture. There is an umbrella of 7 hoods over the head of the idol.

Tirth : It is in Sanghvi ki Pole in Khambhat.

Historicity: The ancient name of Khambhat is Trambavati. Khambhat is an ancient port of Gujarat. The idol of Shri Sthamban Parshvanath was brought to Khambhat in the 14th century and installed in a huge temple here. Since then, Khambhat had become a famous pilgrimage centre. Many great Acharyas like Shri Hemchandracharya, Shri Jinchandrasuriji, Shri Ramchandrasurishvarji, Shri Vijay Nemisurishvarj, Shri Vijay Labdhi Surishvarji, Shri Vijaysensurishvarji, Shri Vijay Premsuriji etc. have visited Khambhat. Many religious activities have been accomplished by them here. Maharaja Kumarpal, King Sidhraj, Vastupal Tejpal have built beautiful temples here. The glorious temple of Shri Som Chintamani Parshvanath is in Sanghvi ki Pole in Khambhat. This idol of Parshvanath is very ancient, alluring and magnificent. This temple was renovated in V.S.1990 and the alluring idol was installed again. The idol of Padmavati Devi in this temple is very miraculous. Hence, this temple is also known as “Padmavati ka Dera”.

Other Temples: There is an ancient temple of Shri Vimalnath Bhagwan here. There are more than 60 temples in Khambhat. The ancient temples of Shri Sthamban Parshvanath and Shri Simandar Swami in Kharvada, Shri Mahaveer Swami temple in Ghimti, Shri Chintamani Parshvanath temple in Sagota Pada are very gorgeous and beautiful.

A new temple of 24 Thirthankaras was recently built near the bus stand. In the basement of this temple, 96 idols of Thirthankaras are installed.

Guidelines: This temple is at a distance of 1.5 kms. from the railway station. Vadodara is at a distance of 80 kms. from Khambhat. Dharamshala and Bhojanshala facilities are available here. Bus and private vehicles are available here.
